A location is not a separate legal entity
The main establishment is the central location of a business; a branch is another location. A legal entity, such as a BV, is an organisation with its own rights and obligations. KVK explains these separately. Not every legal entity has an establishment: some foundations and associations have no establishment number.
Fictional example: a shop and the head office
Suppose Business A has a head office and two shops. To check the address of shop A2, select that establishment. To find the registered director of Business A, the shop’s extract alone is insufficient. Look for the main establishment or the legal entity concerned. This example describes no real business.
Check before paying
Compare the name, KVK number, establishment number, town and result type with your records. The same trade name does not necessarily mean the same business. If numbers are confusing, read the guide to the different numbers. Ask whether the recipient wants to check a location or the organisation itself.
Then choose the document format
Selecting the correct registration is separate from choosing digital or paper, certification and document language. Review the digital extract and ask whether the recipient accepts the original PDF. For an initial name or address check, KVK’s public search may suffice. Order only when you know which additional details you need.
Match the selection to your question
- Are you checking a location or the organisation?
- Must the document list company officers?
- Do the name, number and town match your records?
