Eight, twelve or nine digits
KVK describes the KVK number as eight digits, the establishment number as twelve and the RSIN as nine. Length can reveal a mix-up, but does not prove that a number belongs to the intended business. Look up the business and compare its registered name and town. Our company search accepts a KVK number, not a VAT ID.
When can a number be absent?
According to KVK, sole proprietorships have no RSIN. Many associations, foundations and owners’ associations have no establishment and therefore no establishment number. An empty field alone does not mean an invalid registration. Check the legal form and number type before asking for a replacement document.
The VAT ID has a different purpose
A Dutch VAT identification number consists of NL, nine digits, B and two digits. The Netherlands Tax Administration issues it for VAT purposes. Matching that format does not verify tax status or your contact’s identity. Ask the business which number appears on its invoice; do not construct a VAT ID from a KVK number.
